Quick Summer Hair
Makeovers
Your skin is glowing, you're sporting a sexy sundress and your hair looks
completely fried! Don't despair, Fashion-411 has a few tips and tricks to
make sure your summer hair 'do' doesn't become a 'don't'!
Good looking hair doesn't have to take hours, you just need the right products
and a little creativity. The first step is protecting it from the
sun.
The sun's rays can wreck havoc on our
hair. To lock in the moisture, look for a product that contains an
oil or sun protectant. An easy fix is to use your favorite leave-in
conditioner and let the heat from the sun's rays activate the ingredients to better
penetrate the hair. For intense conditioning, Frederic
Fekkai’s Sun Protectant for Hair contains a sunscreen and shea butter
which super-moisturizes hair. The entire line of Phytoplage
products were developed in France to protect hair from splitting and breaking in
the sun. Their Phytoplage Oils contain extract oils which shield the hair from
the sun. In a newer, lighter product called Phytoplage Protective Sun Veil,
sunflower oil is used as a sun filter. For all-natural hair products,
check out HairLift
- especially their pomades! KaraCare's
oil sheen with humidity block is perfect for adding sheen and minimizing
frizz. Last but not least, Renee
Furterer has a Sun Mousse containing jojoba wax to form an invisible
protective coating on the hair.
Special care is needed after swimming,
whether at the beach or pool. Both
chlorine and salt water dry and discolor hair. The chemicals used in pool water
bind to the hair and may give hair a grayish or green cast. Mineral deposits in
salt water, in combination with sunlight, severely dehydrate hair and can turn
it brassy. Rinse hair in fresh water immediately before and after
swimming in a pool or sea water. (Wet hair will absorb less chlorine than dry
hair.) Club soda makes a good post-pool rinse, or try a shampoo designed to
remove chlorine and salt from the hair. Check out Sephora
for several choices.
Easy hair styling is the answer to enjoying your summer fun without major drama
around your hair. Here are a few tips to help:
A rod set will create a natural looking
wave for a night out after a day at the beach.
Add extensions for a totally new 'do'.
Try Aveda's
'Be Curly' to enhance your own natural curls or add a little curl to
otherwise straight hair.
Secure your hair back into a sleek ponytail. Add one of the season's fun
headbands to dress it up a bit.
Update a short hair cut by adding Matrix
Curl.Life Body Shaping Foam for perfectly formed, frizz-free curls.
